GONZAGA HOLDS OFF TENNESSEE,
CAPTURES OLD SPICE CLASSIC TITLE
At the midway point, Gonzaga clung to a 4-point lead, and everyone figured this game would go down to the wire. What a wonderful three days for this event—complete with surprises: Georgetown easily handling Maryland, a packed house every night (a sellout crowd watched Maryland upset No. 6 Michigan State) and confirmation that this tournament has indeed arrived. Said Gonzaga coach Mark Few: “It’s the best preseason field in the country this year, without a doubt. There are probably seven Tournament teams, at the worst six, which is an incredible field.
